WESTON AND CIVICRADAR

The Connecticut Policy and Economic Council (CPEC) has partnered with the Town of Weston to implement CivicRADAR, a technology utility for you to communicate submit inquiries, initiate service requests, and to contact the right department at Town Hall 24 hours a day. Not only can you submit requests, but you can also track their status online and find out what other concerns have been by other Weston residents or groups.

Weston has been utilizing the CivicRADAR utility since the fall of 2002 with much success. To read more on the impact of CivicRADAR on the community, and how the administration is utilizing this tool, see this article published in The Weston Forum (reprinted here with permission).

CivicRADAR is a truly useful tool for both the town government of Weston and the residents. Residents have used the system to inquire about the library heating issue, solar panels on street lights, injured deer on town roads and more... HOW DOES CIVICRADAR WORK?

CivicRADAR is unlike any tool currently in use in that it gives citizens direct access to information on the status of their request from the moment of transmission to the moment of resolution. Built on a framework designed by Tallan, Inc., CivicRADAR automatically transmits citizen complaints and service requests to the appropriate party in Town Hall. Since it may take a number of municipal workers to resolve a request, citizens can log in at any time to view the current location and status of their request. When requests are closed, the citizen will receive an email link to a Satisfaction Survey, which will help town leaders identify which areas of government service have earned the highest praise from citizens.

All information is housed on servers owned and operated by CPEC. CPEC will never sell, rent, give, or loan personal information submitted via
CivicRADAR to any party outside of the appropriate municipality. Click HERE to read our Privacy Statement.

WHO IS CPEC?

Founded in 1942 for the purposes of policy research and fiscal analysis, the
Connecticut Policy and Economic Foundation (CPEC) has evolved over the years into the state’s most widely-recognized champion of linking the use of technology with improved government services and public policy outcomes at the community level. Through publications and outreach, CPEC offers Connecticut residents additional resources to help them better participate
in local decision-making processes.

Citizens deserve accountability tools by which to measure the performance of their government. However, the traditional mechanisms for the delivery of government services do not allow for consolidation of meaningful and unbiased data for public review. CPEC believes that the avenues available for Internet-based database management offer an exciting opportunity for the development of a powerful performance measurement tool. Currently, no single organization or entity aggregates the myriad of citizen complaints
and inquiries into a coherent snapshot of community satisfaction with municipal services.

By creating and serving as an independent host for this database, CPEC will provide a valuable accountability tool for citizens and governments in the pilot municipalities. This program will also developing a “best practices” roadmap to reduce implementation cycles in other locations seeking to advance “citizen to government” communication via the Internet. CivicRADAR has been designed to demonstrate that technology can produce new and valuable tools to aid in the measurement of municipal government performance and ultimately lead to improved outcomes in the delivery of government services.

CivicRADAR is sponsored by the Connecticut Policy and Economic Council, the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, and the Town of Weston
